LA POSADA DE VENTOSILLA

Don Francisco Gómez Sandoval y Rojas, the first Duke of Lerma, Prime Minister to King Philip III, built the current palace to provide worthy accommodation for the king on the many occasions he visited Ventosilla to rest or to hunt. These royal visits were the reason the village came to be known henceforth as the Royal Site of Ventosilla, a name which was certainly well-deserved, as it belonged to the the Catholic queen, to her daughter Doña Juana and to Charles I, who also liked this region to which he was a frequent visitor. Subsequent kings, Philip IV and Philip V also spent nights in Ventosilla. The inn can also be rented on a room-by-room basis. This palace was built in the 17th century in the style of Herrera; it was refurbished in 2001 and opened to the public in 2002. It has a floor area of 1,000 m² and is in a good state of repair. Both the tradition and the appearance of the establishment are distinctive; the fact that it is housed in a palace, together with its décor, make the experience almost like staying in a museum. The accommodation is located in the village of Gumiel de Mercado, in the Ribera del Duero region.
